Glaucoma: Os dois lados da mesma moeda (Glaucoma the two sides of the same coin) - Prof. Dr. Remo Susanna Jr.

“Looking at real statistics, about 15% (approximately 1 out of 6) of glaucoma treated patients will be blind in one eye. That is a tragedy”. John Hopkins Hospital - 2018

The most important task in ophthalmology is to prevent blindness. Glaucoma is the second most important cause of irreversible blindness. It seems that over the last decade we are moving a lot of water but going nowhere. Thus, it is important for the ophthalmologist to know why patients go blind from glaucoma. This presentation will show a brief description of these causes.

Glaucoma: Novas tecnologias evitando a cegueira? (Glaucoma: New technologies preventing blindness?) - Prof. Dr. Paulo Augusto de Arruda Mello

In recent years, new imaging equipment has shed new light on the diagnosis and monitoring patients with glaucoma. PubMed reports today almost 8,000 publications in journals indexed with the keywords: Images AND glaucoma. New drugs, surgeries and devices have improved our therapeutic arsenal. But all this development has made medicine more expensive. Concerned about public health, we need to know what is really important for the prevention of blindness. We must employ in our medical practice the best for our patients, always focused on cost / benefit.
