Licenciado en Medicina por la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de São Paulo en 1987. Hizo la residencia en Oftalmología en el Hospital das Clínicas de la Universidad de São Paulo hasta 1991, y un Fellowship en Glaucoma en el Wills Eye Hospital de
Filadelfia, EE.UU., en 1992-1993. Defendió el título de Doctor en Medicina en 1996 y el de Profesor Titular en 2001, ambos en la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de São Paulo. Desde 1993, es Jefe del Departamento de Glaucoma de la UNICAMP. Actualmente
es Profesor Asociado de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas de la UNICAMP y supervisor de cursos de postgrado. Fue Presidente de la Sociedad Brasileña de Glaucoma y Vicepresidente de la Sociedad Iberoamericana de Glaucoma. Actual presidente de la Sociedad
Panamericana de Glaucoma (PAGS).

Dr. Luis Abegão Pinto (Portugal)
Luís Abegão Pinto is the Head of the Glaucoma Clinic of the Department of Ophthalmology of Portugal’s largest Hospital (Hospital Santa Maria). He serves as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon University, Portugal. His main areas of interest are the non-IOP related risk factors in glaucoma, particularly the ones related to ocular blood flow (the area of his PhD) and Glaucoma Surgery, specifically wound healing modulation.
He serves in the Executive Board of the European Glaucoma Society (EGS) since 2018 and it is currently the EGS General Secretary. Moreover, he is co-chair of the EGS TaskForce on Glaucoma Surgery, co-editing the new “Guides on Innovations in Glaucoma Surgery”
He has authored or co-authored 99 indexed, peer-reviewed papers in Glaucoma. He is actively engaged in a number of scientific ophthalmological societies, including the EGS and EVER, having chaired or co-chaired a number of courses in international Ophthalmology societies’ meetings.

Dr Jammal is an ophthalmologist, fellowship-trained clinical and surgical glaucoma specialist, and clinical researcher. He received his Ph.D. from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Brazil) and is currently a research scientist at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida (USA).
