Prof. Dr. José Salgado-Borges MD PhD (Portugal)

José Salgado-Borges received his doctorate from the Faculty of Medicine of Porto (Ophthalmology) in 1990. From 1976 to 1998 he held teaching positions at the Faculty of Medicine of Porto, accumulating between 1990 and 1998 the role of Hospital Assistant in Ophthalmology at HS João. He is currently responsible for 2 Research Projects, one in the area of ​​Cataract Surgery and the other in the area of ​​Early Detection of Keratoconus and Myopia. He collaborates with the Universities of Minho and Valencia in several Research projects in the Areas of Vision Quality and Determination of Genetic Markers in Diabetic Retinopathy. With the Avanzada Ophthalmological Area in Barcelona, ​​he is carrying out studies within the scope of the Diagnosis and Treatment of “Dry Eye”. He collaborates as a teacher/researcher in the Monographic Course “Clinical Methodology and Practice in Refractive Surgery, Cataratas and Cornea” – Universidad Miguel Hernández, Faculty of Medicine of Alicante.

Dr. Joaquín Fernández MD PhD (Spain)

Joaquín Fernández Pérez, MD, PhD is both a Medical Doctor (MD) and PhD in Physics Applied to Sciences and Technologies by the University of Alicante. Specialized in Ophthalmology and Anterior Segment Surgery: Refractive Surgery, Presbyopia, Keratoconus, and Cataracts. Dr. Fernández is the CEO and Medical Director in Ophthalmology Department at Qvisión in Vithas Virgen del Mar Hospital (Almería). He is a Patron of the Elena Barraquer Foundation with those performs two surgical expeditions per year to eradicate preventable blindness due to cataracts.

Dr. Carlos Vergés MD PhD

• Medicine and Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Barcelona (1980)
• Doctorate in Biology at Harvard University with the Thesis on the mechanisms of tear secretion, basic to understanding the pathology of Dry Eye Syndrome. National Research Award (1983)
• Head of the Ophthalmology Service at Hospital Universitari Dexeus Area of interest: cataracts and the neurophysiological mechanisms of vision, especially related to sports.
